If your car breaks down, you’re not going to just start replacing things hoping one of them is the broken part and your car will start working.
No, you will inspect the car to find the broken part and then fix it.
The same needs to happen with your ADHD. We are quick to throw medication at it. But, medicine might not be the answer to all of your ADHD struggles. Medication will slow your brain down to help you focus. It will help you reign in your attention better and process what is going on instead of info flying in one ear and out the other.
If you are chronically late, medication is not going to teach you to use a calendar system that works for you. It isn’t going to remind you that it’s time to leave. You have to have the tools to make it happen yourself.
Medication works wonders for some people! Sometimes all they need is that little extra help with focus.
For others, as soon as those meds wear off, everything goes to hell in a handbasket.
Let me tell you a secret… It doesn’t have to be that way!
This is why it is so important to get the diagnosis and then dive deep into your diagnosis and figure out exactly how each aspect of ADHD is impacting you. Then you can start ‘fixing’ the car.
When you do this, you have provided yourself with tools that will still work for you when your medication wears off.
Just like you have a mechanic fix your car, a coach helps you lessen the chaos so you can THRIVE with your ADHD.
I am your ADHD mechanic!
